The Basketball Phonics game. |
|
|
Subject |
Phonics. (Pace is important, but it will probably
work for vocabulary too.) |
|
Richard’s comments. |
Keep the tempo up and it will pay dividends. |
|
Group size: |
As you need to get around the board, about eight is
your maximum per game. |
|
Team teaching game? |
The game can be played with one teacher. |

Playing rules. |
The teams pass the ball using the ‘passing dice’. Identify the letter or vocabulary from the focus
card and throw again. Turn over- as it sounds. Foul. Team in possession gets a free throw. Jump balls are decided by the first person to answer a basic question. If they get the ball to their ‘shooter’ on the free throw line they can take a shot using the ‘shooting dice’. Three second rule applies. You have three seconds
after saying your sound to throw the dice. |
|
Variations. |
The game should be suitable for letters, names, sounds,
lettersets, and vocabulary. In effect, anything said quickly can be used. |
