The Basketball Phonics game.
Subject	Phonics. (Pace is important, but it will probably work for vocabulary too.)
Richard’s comments.	Keep the tempo up and it will pay dividends.
Group size:	As you need to get around the board, about eight is your maximum per game.
Team teaching game?	The game can be played with one teacher.
Materials	Basketball game board. ‘Playing’ and ‘shooting’ Dice. Phonics cards or vocabulary prompt.

Game set up.	Play in teams around the board.

 

Playing rules.

The teams pass the ball using the ‘passing dice’. Identify the letter or vocabulary from the focus card and throw again. Turn over- as it sounds. Foul. Team in possession gets a free throw. Jump balls are decided by the first person to answer a basic question.  If they get the ball to their ‘shooter’ on the free throw line they can take a shot using the ‘shooting dice’.  Three second rule applies. You have three seconds after saying your sound to throw the dice.

Variations.

The game should be suitable for letters, names, sounds, lettersets, and vocabulary. In effect, anything said quickly can be used.
