The all or nothing carpet memory game. |
||
|
Subject |
Vocabulary. It can work with some structures too. Generally, this is a really flexible game and you
are only limited by your own imagination. |

|
Richard’s comments. |
Usually with the traditional memory game a ‘found’
card is won and that is that for the card. Turning cards down after a mistake is made allows
for a repetition of the vocabulary. |

|
Group size: |
Suitable for classes of up to eight |
|
|
Team teaching game? |
This game can be played
with one teacher. |
|
|
Materials |
Flash cards. For added difficulty you may need fillers (extra
vocabulary) Anything from this or previous units will do. (or basic
questions) These can be introduced at the beginning of a second
round. A small duplicate set for yourself (to act as prompts) |
|
|
Game set up. |
Review the vocabulary and or the structures at the
desk. Sit the students in a semi-circle. For younger children it will help to alternate the
two teams. Turns can just follow left to right. Go through
the vocabulary as you place the cards down on the floor. It is necessary for
the students to see where the vocabulary goes down to get them into the game
quickly. Now ask the children to look at the cards and try to
remember them. (Give them 10-15 seconds) Turn the cards face down. |
|
|
Playing rules. |
In teams or individually. Show the first player one of the small cards and ask
“What’s this?” The student must identify the card and repeat the
words. Turn the card face up. If the card is identified correctly, lay it face up
and ask the next question. Continue until a mistake is made. Continue until the cards are identified. |
