The tug of war game. |
|
|
Subject |
Basic questions. |
|
Richard’s comments. |
I designed the game to
practice basic questions, but it will work with vocabulary and structures too. |
|
Group size: |
Suitable for all class
sizes but getting everyone involved will, as always, be the challenge. |
|
Team teaching game? |
This game can be played with one teacher. |
|
Materials |
The
tug of war rope and point band. The lower scale can just be squares or could
have words or pictures in each square. The
upper section (The two ‘teams’) should be free to move laterally up and down
the scale. Suitable
basic questions or other topic focus cards. |

|
Game set up. |
Simply played at the table
with the ‘tug of war’ game on the board. Don’t forget the carpet
version. See ‘variations’ below. |
|
Playing rules. |
In
two teams. Alternate
turns. Answer a basic question and throw the dice. Pull
the ‘rope’ the correct number of squares towards you. After
a fixed number of throws judge who has pulled the furthest. (Or award the win
to the first team to pull the marker to their end.) If necessary, you can play
more than one round. |
