A great game for reminding the students about the importance of vocabulary.

A nice change to the routine. Ideal for odd minutes…

Give it a go and see how flexible it can be.

Don’t forget to ring the changes and keep it fresh.

Single words are better than sentences. That’s easier to judge who is first.

Group size:

For classes of any size.

Play in teams or individually.

Team teaching game?

This game can be played with one teacher.

 

Materials

Pack of well shuffled playing cards.

Timer if you want a fixed playing time.

Game set up.

Divide into small teams.

 

Playing rules.

Set the timer and begin.

Teacher says a word in Japanese.

Simply, students must identify the word in English.

First student to say the word gets a playing card face down.

 

When the timer goes off give a point for each red playing card.

The team with the most points wins.

Variations.

Play English to Japanese.

Japanese to English.

With image prompts.

I think it will work if you show phonics, pictures, or words too.
