The ‘bridge’
jumping game. |
|
|
Subject |
Letter
names and sounds. Vocabulary. |
|
Richard’s comments. |
Very useful vocabulary game
with plenty of repetition. |
|
Group size: |
Classes
1-10 are ok. It might well work with larger classes too. |
|
Team teaching game? |
You will need one supervisor per team as it is a
race game. |
|
Materials |
Vocabulary cards. Phonics cards. 1 set per
team. |
|
Game set up. |
Drill phonics and
vocabulary. Lay the vocabulary cards
face up on the floor. Divide
into even teams. |
|
|
|
|
Playing rules. |
First team player takes a
phonics card saying the name or the sound and places it on the first vocabulary
card. (Either identify the card or make the structure.) Continue over the bridge.
(Don’t actually stand on the cards.) Second player takes a card,
identifies the first and second cards and placing the phonics card on the
second vocabulary card. Each player repeats the
process saying the preceding cards as they go. First team to complete the
bridge and ‘save’ the teacher (Standing at the other end of the bridge) wins. Add a ‘handicap’ by giving
extra cards to the winning team and repeat. |
|
When I played this game, I
found that it worked best when we began with everybody in the team repeating
the vocabulary together leaving one point for each player to do individually
at the end. |
|
|
Variations. |
Should work
with vocabulary too. |
I think games are a great way to support your English lessons. This is a store of the games I use in my lessons. Hopefully You can find something useful for you too.
